Several people were reportedly injured with an active shooter inside a building being hunted by police.
The Atlanta Police Department investigated an active shooter around 1110 W Peachtree Street NW shortly after 12.20pm on Wednesday. The public was asked to shelter in place and stay away from the area.
‘We are working an active shooter situation inside a building,’ tweeted the police department as of 12.42pm. ‘We are aware of multiple people injured. No suspect is in custody.’
Just after 1pm, police tweeted four images of the suspect ‘still at large’. The suspect appeared to be a man wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, a mask, dark pants and carrying a bag across the front of his body.
The address that police provided in the tweet is the Northside Hospital urgent care and family medicine facility. However, it was not immediately clear if the shooting occurred inside or near the hospital.
‘Anyone in the area is asked to secure their building and shelter in place. Anyone not in the area is asked to stay away,’ tweeted the police department. ‘We will communicate via social media and our website with updates.’
The police department stated in an email to media that ‘the suspect is believed to be armed and dangerous and should not be approached’.
‘Anyone with any information on this person’s whereabouts is asked to call 911,’ stated cops.
