A man who appeared to be stealing a bicycle stopped in the middle of the act to play with the family dog that discovered him.
Surveillance footage from inside a garage shows a man wheeling out a bike out the open counterweight door. A golden retriever is seen approaching him.
The man upon seeing the dog wheels the bike back into the garage and parks it, then bends down to play with the dog.
‘You’re so cool. You’re the coolest dog I’ve ever known,’ the man is heard saying.

The dog lies down on the ground and the man rubs its belly.
‘Who’s your dad?’ the man says. ‘Dad, where are you?’
He also appears to say the owner ‘should not leave your garage open’.
The man finishes off by saying, ‘I love you too’ to the dog and ‘you’re a sweetheart’.

He then wheels out the bike as the dog stays inside the garage and watches, wagging its tail.
The incident happened on July 15 around 10.40pm in the Pacific Beach neighborhood, the San Diego Police Department shared on Facebook on Thursday. The man took a 2019 black Electra three-speed bicycle worth about $1,300.
‘This isn’t your average bike; it’s distinct, featuring “8-ball” caps on the tire valves, an “8-ball” logo on the frame, and a rear wheel frame marked with a checkered black and white pattern,’ stated the police department.

‘In a rather peculiar turn of events, as the suspect was about to make his escape, he paused to pet the household dog who had entered the garage.’
The man was wearing a gray shirt, blue shorts, a blue and white hat and orange shoes, and had a black and blue backpack.
He remains at large and anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact the police department.
