Liverpool conceded first yet again but bounced back impressively at Ibrox and romped to a 7-1 win over Rangers in the Champions League, with Mohamed Salah coming off the bench to score an incredible hat-trick.

It looked like Roberto Firmino was going to grab the headlines after two goals and an immaculate assist, but Salah came on in the second half and netted a hat-trick in six minutes and 12 seconds – the fastest hat-trick ever in the Champions League.

Scott Arfield had caused an eruption at Ibrox when he put the home side ahead after 17 minutes, coolly finishing a well-worked move, but that was as good as it got for the Scots.

Firmino equalised with a header at the near post from an in-swinging corner just seven minutes later and things were tight for the rest of the first half, with little between the sides.

After the break it was all Liverpool, with Firmino putting the visitors ahead on 55 minutes as Joe Gomez did a great impression of Trent Alexander-Arnold by bursting down the right flank and putting in a perfect cross for the Brazilian to tap in.

Firmino then turned provider 11 minutes later as he produced a lovely flick with his back foot to play in Darwin Nunez, who curled an effort past Allan McGregor.

Things looked comfortable at that stage for the Reds but then they went wild, with Salah scoring three in a little over six minutes.

A trio of impressive finishes, the first a simple toe-poke, but the second two beautifully taken left the home side shell-shocked.

Harvey Elliott then rounded off the scoring as he pounced on a rebounded shot to fire his first Champions League goal past McGregor and extend Rangers’ misery.
