Mikel Arteta has offered his reaction to Oleksandr Zinchenko’s error which led to a goal in Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Wolves on Saturday.

Goals from Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard put the Gunners in control at the Emirates but Zinchenko’s mistake on 86 minutes made it a nervous ending.

Nelson Semedo nipped the ball off the toes of the Ukraine international and Matheus Cunha slammed home to put Wolves back in the game.

While Arteta defended Zinchenko in his post-match press conference, he wants his Arsenal team to ‘learn’ from his blunder.

‘You have to love him how he is,’ Arteta said about Zinchenko. ‘He has strengths and weaknesses and Alex has got many more strengths.

‘This happened, it can happen to any player, we have to learn from it.

‘In those areas it’s a big no to play especially after certain things on the previous phrase and that’s it, we will get better.’

Saka’s opener after just six minutes was Arsenal’s 100th goal of 2023, with 21 different players contributing to that total.

‘The contribution has to come from all over the pitch,’ Arteta added. ‘When you see them interacting, and changing positions, and opening gaps, and their relationships are getting better and better. Today, I think it was very fluid.’

Arsenal, who are now four points clear at the top of the Premier League before Manchester City, Liverpool and Aston Villa play their matches on Sunday, return to action on Tuesday with a trip to Luton Town.
