The original Metal Gear Solid may be getting a makeover (pic: Konami)
A remake of the original Metal Gear Solid is still rumoured to be still in development and will apparently take priority after Metal Gear Solid Delta.
After Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection and the announcement of a full remake for Metal Gear Solid 3 (named Delta), it seems Konami’s strategy for the future of the franchise is to mine the past as much as possible.
The company’s conservative approach isn’t too surprising considering how acclaimed the series is and how much past games were driven by creator Hideo Kojima, who left Konami back in 2015 under somewhat bitter circumstances.
Metal Gear Solid Delta was recently confirmed, by Sony, to be out this year but it seems Konami might already be working on more full remakes for the franchise.
According to Spanish website Areajugones, their sources claim Konami is still developing a remake of the original Metal Gear Solid from 1998. A source previously told the outlet a remake would be announced in 2023 but, despite it not making an appearance, it’s believed to be still in the pipeline for release after Metal Gear Solid Delta.
A remake of the original Metal Gear Solid has been rumoured for several years, although it’s never been clear who is making it. The remake has also long been rumoured to be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, which is apparently still the case – although it may only be a timed exclusive.
Areajugones is one of the main gaming sites in Spani and the same source leaked the DLC for God Of War Ragnarök back in October, which was later announced at The Game Awards in December.
Metal Gear Solid makes sense as the next candidate for the remake treatment as while, chronologically speaking, there are other games before it, it is still arguably the most popular instalment in the franchise.

Konami previously implied more Metal Gear Solid remakes could be a possibility in an interview with IGN last year: ‘Regarding remakes of previous games in the series other than Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, we will listen to player demand and consider accordingly.’
The original Metal Gear Solid first received the remake treatment on the GameCube, with 2004’s Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, which also incorporated gameplay elements from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty. That was developed by the now defunct Silicon Knights, but still with Kojima overseeing their work.
Along with Metal Gear Solid Delta, Konami is working on the second volume of the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection – which is expected to include Metal Gear Solid 4, Peace Walker, and other more recent entries. An official announcement, however, is yet to be made.
