The very first CosMc’s has opened to customers who have shared a closer look at what the McDonald’s spin off served up during its ‘soft launch’.
The drive-thru restaurant, named after the chain’s alien mascot from the 80s and 90s, has been described by Maccies bosses as a ‘small-format concept with all the DNA of McDonald’s, but its own unique personality.’
Located in Bolingbrook, Illinois, the brand new CosMc’s has a menu that some believe will rival the likes of Starbucks, thanks to tasty-sounding drinks such as the Churro Frappe, Sour Cherry Energy Burst, Popping Pear Slush, and S’mores Cold Brew.
And in addition to a few McDonald’s classics (McMuffins and McFlurries), the menu also has some fun additions including a Spicy Queso Sandwich, a Creamy Avocado Tomatillo Sandwich, McPops which are small doughnuts, as well as Pretzel Bites and Hash Brown Bites.
On TikTok a number of people have filmed themselves ordering at the new CosMc’s drive-thru, showing exactly what these items look like.
In a video posted by Lou Stejskal, Lou can be heard asking the server at the window if there’s anything she recommends trying, to which the unnamed staff member says: ‘Have you tried the Hash Brown Bites? They’re smaller [than McDonald’s regular Hash Browns] and they’re seasoned. And you can get a dip with that, you can get Spicy Queso, Herb Rach, Hot Mustard or Ketchup.’
Lou’s clip also shows a close up of a large advert for the restaurant’s Chai Frappe Burst which proclaims that the drink ‘tastes like we sent a Chai Frappe through a sweet popping boba galaxy at light speed’.
A number of people in the comments praised how kind the CosMc’s employees seemed and also compared the business to an American chain called Sonic Drive-In.
Lou replied: ‘It’s like Sonic only that it’s drive-thru. But CosMc’s has only drinks, breakfast and desserts.’
Another TikTok clip, uploaded by Cindy Casstro, gave viewers a chance to see the McPops up close — and Cindy even rated each doughnut out of 10.
The McPops come in three flavours and customers can buy them individually or as a mixed bag. The options are Apple Cinnamon, Cookie Butter, and Hazlenut. The first was Cindy’s favourite, scoring 9/10, while she gave the others 8/10 and 9/10 respectively.
She also ordered an Island Pick Me Up Punch, the avocado sandwich and two M&Ms McFlurries.
Meanwhile foodie TikToker @snackolator shared some more information about how CosMc’s works explaining in his video: ‘I’ve made the journey to CosMc’s to try it out, it is open for a soft launch today and I’ll do some reviewing and see how it is.
‘So what’s interesting is CosMc’s is 100% drive-thru, so you cannot go inside to order and then when your order is ready, they tell you which window to go to, to go pick it up.’
He then films himself ordering, and his choices include the Sour Cherry Energy Burst ($5.39 for a medium), a mixed bag of McPops ($3.79), Hash Brown Bites ($2.39) and a Caramel Fudge Brownie Sundae with chocolate ice cream ($4.89).
Once his order is ready, the TikToker shows off the CosMc’s branding on the cups and bag, before digging in.
After trying everything, he gives his verdict, saying: ‘I think CosMc’s is a great idea, a great concept, I’m excited to see what they do with it, if they do more limited items… also excited to see what they do as far as expansion as they’re supposed to open 10 more next year in Texas.
He adds: ‘I’m just loving that they get all these different kinds [of drinks]. They’re pricier than a McDonald’s, it’s more like Starbucks pricing, but it’s really good.
‘This was a fun visit, there’s a lot more I need to try.’

Despite all the buzz around the new CosMc’s there are still no opening dates for other locations and it’s not yet been confirmed whether the new concept will be coming to the UK at any point either.
So for now Maccies fans, we’ll just have to keep drooling onto our screens and keep our fingers crossed!
