A man has left with suspected gunshot wounds and another reportedly attacked with an axe during a ‘serious assault’ in Redruth.

The two men were involved in an incident on the Cornwall town’s Drump Road at around 6.30pm this evening.

Officers from the armed unit were sent to the address along with a police helicopter, and remain on the scene.

Police dressed in black could be seen gathering around the town’s Red Lion pub earlier this evening.

Both men have been taken to hospital.

The man who is believed to have been hit by an axe has received serious head injuries, while the other man’s suspected gunshot wound is being treated as life-threatening.

Police have described the incident as ongoing.

Detective Superintendent Jon Bancroft, senior investigating officer, said: ‘Detectives and specialist officers are deployed to support our initial investigation and we will provide further information in due course.

‘I would urge anyone with information which may assist our enquiries, including dash-cam and CCTV footage in the area, to get in touch and report it to us.’

Any person who believes they may have useful information is asked to contact Devon and Cornwall Police on 101, quoting log 785 of July 6.

Alternatively, reports can be made on the force’s website, or raised anonymously to CrimeStoppers via their website or by calling 0800 555 111.
