The press release from the prosecutor for minors of Caltanissetta Rocco Cosentino comes at the height of frantic days in which it was hypothesized that fifteen-year-old Larimar Annaloro did not commit suicide, but was the victim of someone. The prosecutor writes: “In order to protect the public interest in correct information, in relation to the news given in recent days (by press agencies and magazines, as well as by the main national and local news programmes), with particular emphasis and in abundance of details, regarding the investigations following the tragic death of the fifteen-year-old from Piazza Armerina, this Office deems it necessary to call a press conference”.
A surprise initiative. The magistrate himself explains the reason: “It is necessary to clarify some aspects which have been widely disseminated in the mass media, which have generated public outcry, essentially due to the revelation of some ‘alleged news’ on the development of the investigations; the fact that they were traced back to unspecified ‘investigative sources’, indeed completely inexplicably, contributed to giving them an appearance of truthfulness”.

A clear denial of the hypotheses made in recent days, also relaunched by the young girl’s parents, who have cast doubt on the suicide hypothesis. The prosecutor criticizes these reconstructions: “This has determined, or in any case strengthened, the public belief in a certain course of events capable of creating alarmism, which is currently unjustified, with obvious repercussions on the protection of public order. This is why there is an obligation – continues Cosentino – to clarify all the salient points of the preliminary investigation carried out up to now, obviously within the limits of the extensibility of the documents and to the extent that they are supported by objective corroborating elements”.
Cosentino will hold a press conference on Tuesday morning. “This was due, with absolute respect for the right to freedom of the press and for the journalists who guarantee it every day, but, even more so, in compliance with the pre-eminent protection of the right to correct information”. The Caltanissetta investigation remains for incitement to suicide. And we continue to investigate the circulation of some videos that allegedly portrayed the young woman.
