Jurgen Klopp has confirmed that Luis Diaz will be out for six-eight weeks with injury, although Trent Alexander-Arnold is only facing a couple of weeks on the sidelines.
Liverpool have been struggling with a number of injuries early in the season and their issues continue to mount, with Alexander-Arnold, Diaz and Joel Matip all heading to the treatment room thanks to problems they picked up in the weekend’s loss to Arsenal.
It was apparent immediately after the loss at the Emirates that all three would miss the trip to take on Rangers on Wednesday night, although Klopp says that Alexander-Arnold’s issue is not as bad as first feared.
‘After the game in the dressing room it was already clear that this will be the case,’ Klopp told a press conference on the trio being out of action.
‘I hoped and think we were a little bit lucky with Trent because the angle didn’t look good.
‘Two weeks I heard, that’s the information I got, I’m not sure I’m allowed to say this to be honest. We will see.’
On Diaz, Klopp said: ‘Lucho 6-8 [weeks], he looks like a quick healer but we have to be careful with that. It could have been worse with the way he moved after the game.
‘Joel just felt a little bit, but we made a scan and he’s out as well.
‘That’s not great, but that’s the situation and we have to deal with it and we will.’
There is better news on the injury front with Andy Robertson and Curtis Jones both returning to training and the former could even feature on Wednesday in his home country.

However, Jones remains out of first team contention, as does Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.
‘They have only trained a couple of days, we cannot just put them in because the others are out,’ warned Klopp.
‘Robbo is in the squad for tomorrow, Curtis, Ox, Naby not. That’s it.
‘It’s important that boys are coming back. But not just train twice with the team and here we go.’
