Joe Biden slams Trump criticism of Nato as ‘shameful’
President Joe Biden strongly criticised his expected 2024 election rival, Donald Trump, for his recent remarks regarding NATO, labelling them as “foolish,” “disgraceful,” and “anti-American.” The Democrat condemned Trump’s suggestion that he would support Russia in attacking NATO members failing to meet defence spending obligations.
Biden emphasised the importance of swiftly approving a $95 billion foreign aid package for American allies, including $60 billion earmarked for Ukraine. While the bill cleared the Senate, it faces challenges in the House.
Speaking from the White House on Tuesday, Biden warned that failing to pass the aid package would play into Putin’s hands, especially given the heightened tensions fueled by Trump’s “reckless” statements.
“No other president in history has ever bowed down to a Russian dictator,” Mr Biden said.
“Let me say this as clearly as I can. I never will. For God’s sake. It’s dumb. It’s shameful. It’s dangerous. It’s un-American.”
