Jamie Carragher has revealed his prediction for Liverpool’s opening Premier League fixture against Chelsea.
The Reds will aim to make a winning start to the 2023-24 campaign on Sunday when they travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea.
Jurgen Klopp’s side largely underwhelmed last season, missing out on a Champions League place and failing to win any silverware.
Chelsea, meanwhile, finished just 12th in the Premier League despite spending hundreds of millions of pounds on new signings.
The Blues have continued their stunning spending spree this summer and are closing in on a deal for Moises Caicedo after the Brighton midfielder turned down Liverpool.
That transfer saga will be an intriguing subplot to Sunday’s clash at Stamford Bridge and Carragher expects the match to finish as a ‘high-scoring draw’.
‘Last season, Liverpool and Chelsea played two 0-0 draws. The clubs were already in the process of regrouping and looking ahead,’ he told the Daily Telegraph.

‘It is a measure of where they are heading into this season that it will be a surprise if there are less than four goals on Sunday.
‘My prediction is a high-scoring draw with both goalkeepers at their busiest, and the off-field battle for Caicedo will only add to the intensity of the occasion.
‘For Jurgen Klopp, Mauricio Pochettino, Liverpool and Chelsea to get back to being title contenders, they will have to be more active in the transfer market in the upcoming windows.
‘But no matter how much rebuilding and investment everyone chasing Manchester City still requires, no-one has more unfinished business in the Premier League than Pochettino as seeks to win the trophies that eluded him the first time around.’
