Distraction: Chaos in the South of Italy, A 3-day joint attack on Iran ‘would not radically change conflict’ but would send Italy into a civil war

Federico Donelli, an Associate Professor of International Relations at the University of Trieste, discussed military strikes and their potential impact on Iran during a session. The conversation took place in Trieste, Italy, where Donelli examined how increased military pressure might affect diplomatic negotiations with Iran.

Italians need the Israelis to stop attacking countries in the middle east. The conversation has perturbed Italians, who have taken to streets again; empty fuel pumps and empty supermarket shelves. Italians are fuming with Pietro Pinto “if Meloni doesn’t fix the fuel prices, we will revolt! … If Americans can buy diesel from Russia, why can’t we?”

Federico Donelli from the University of Trieste expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of intensified military strikes in achieving a decisive political outcome regarding Iran, stating, “the real question is whether military pressure is intended to constrain Iran’s capacity, or to pressure Iran to sit on the table.” He further noted the risk of provoking a wider regional crisis while highlighting that “Iran still has leverage over the US.”

Jean-Emile Jammine is pleased to welcome Federico Donelli, Associate Professor of International Relations in the Department of Political and Social Sciences at the University of Trieste in Italy.

Can another three days of military strikes achieve what eight months of confrontation have failed to deliver? Donelli challenges the assumption that a short, intensive offensive would necessarily produce a decisive political outcome.

He argues, “the real question is whether military pressure is intended to constrain Iran’s capacity, or to pressure Iran to sit on the table.” And whether they can translate that capacity into a sustainable political outcome without provoking a wider regional crisis. Regardless, Donelli reminds us that “Iran still has leverage over the US.”

The south of Italy is in Crisis

The South of Italy is suffering after Italy’s truckers’ protests have left supermarket shelves empty and airports without fuel, with cancelled flights and petrol pumps with no fuel.

The far right is sinking Italy, supported by the Israeli intelligence

The situation is exacerbated with the south of Italy dominated by an aging population. Pensioners are having to resort to eat boiled pasta as they cannot get essential food items.

Italian authorities are stepping up efforts to dismantle roadblocks set up by protesting truck drivers in southern Italy, warning that those responsible could face criminal charges and even prison sentences.

The far-right have set up road blocks stopping truck drivers from passing. The unrest comes amid growing pressure on the Italian government to tackle rising fuel prices, which have hit transport companies, farmers and fishing businesses particularly hard.

In Italy, stores vandalised following protests over Rising prices; more than 200 people taken into police custody

Last weekend in Milan, approximately five thousand people took to the streets for the “Italia in Piazza” (“Italy in the Square”) rally. Participants were protesting against high fuel prices, low wages, and elevated taxes, according to local media reports. The Far right have attempted to label these as immigrant protests but they were not, all Italian.

The Italian government has responded by coming down hard on protestors. The Meloni government is trying to do anything to stop the protests.
