Israeli air strike in Beit Lahia leaves 34 dead
At least 34 people, including many women and children, were killed in an Israeli air strike targeting a five-story residential building in Beit Lahia, northern Gaza, according to Gaza’s civil defence agency. Seven others were injured, and dozens are believed to remain trapped under the rubble.
The Israeli military confirmed strikes in northern Gaza, stating they were aimed at disrupting Hamas activities.
Meanwhile, additional strikes across Gaza resulted in further casualties. Central Gaza refugee camps saw 15 people killed in three separate attacks, and five others lost their lives in a drone strike on Rafah in the south, local sources reported.
This escalation follows weeks of intense conflict. In Jabalia last week, an air strike killed 25 people, including 13 children.
Gaza’s ongoing humanitarian crisis has displaced up to 130,000 people in the north, with many lacking access to food, water, and medical supplies. The UN estimates that 75,000 people remain trapped in besieged areas like Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun.
A recent Human Rights Watch report accused Israel of committing war crimes by causing mass displacement. According to the UN, over 1.9 million Gaza residents—90% of the population—have been forced from their homes, with evacuation orders covering 79% of the territory.
