Tight security in Pakistan as US-Iran talks are set to go ahead

Tehran will skip talks as tensions rise over US ship seizure
    Heightened Tensions
Significant security measures are implemented in Islamabad, reflecting the high stakes surrounding the upcoming US-Iran negotiations.
    Pakistani Optimism
Authorities emphasised the importance of maintaining security during the US-Iran talks, stating, “We are prepared to ensure a safe environment for all participants.” and are planning as if the talks will continue.

Tehran will skip talks as tensions rise over US ship seizure

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson says government has no plans regarding a new round of talks after the United States seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.

US President Donald Trump says US team, lead by JD Vance, is on its way to Pakistan’s capital Islamabad for talks.

Trump says Iran deal to be signed today in Pakistan

Trump has told Fox News that the Iran deal will be signed “today” in Pakistan, adding on from an earlier interview with the New York Post in which he said Vance and the US delegation were on their way to Islamabad for the talks.

The question about Iran’s participation and the fact that it is upset that the Strait of Hormuz is still being blockaded by the US, as well as the seizure of the Iranian merchant ship, what I can tell you is that the US president said: “I would assume at this point nobody is playing games”.

In other words, there is likely to be Iranian participation at the talks, at least that is the US expectation.

Pakistan working around the clock to make second round happen

There is cautious optimism here in Islamabad that the second round is going to take place.

There’s a lot of momentum that has been built on it. The Pakistani military chief spent three days during the negotiations outside of the country.

I was told by the Pakistani side that they’re monitoring all of the actions in the Strait of Hormuz, which could be an impediment or a hurdle to peace.

But we know that Pakistan’s Interior Minister has also been going around making a number of calls. He’s met the US ambassador. He’s also met the Iranian ambassador and assured them of full security arrangements. The stage is set now – it is going to be up to the two sides to come to the negotiating table one more time.

Tight security measures have been implemented in Islamabad ahead of the US-Iran talks. Authorities aim to ensure a safe environment for the delegations involved in the negotiations.

The discussions are expected to focus on regional stability and nuclear non-proliferation. Both sides aim to address critical issues that impact international relations in the Middle East.
