Former Inter Milan striker Adriano was due to be working for TNT during the Champions League final, but missed his flight to Turkey after a night on the tiles in Rio de Janeiro, according to reports in his native Brazil.
The 41-year-old was meant to be on duty as Inter take on Manchester City in Istanbul, but didn’t make it to the Ataturk Stadium on Saturday.
Brazilian publication Globo report that he was seen at three different parties on Thursday night and missed his flight scheduled for Friday.
Globo’s EXTRA, claim that the Brazilian disappeared on the night out and no one was able to get hold of him as he left a team waiting for him at the airport.
While the extent of any problem with Adriano surrounding this incident is not clear, he has spoken about his problems with drinking in the past.
Adriano had an excellent first couple of years when he re-signed with Inter in 2004 but after the death of his father he suffered badly and turned to drinking, eventually leading to his return to South America.
Speaking to Brazilian outlet R7 in 2018, Adriano said: ‘Only I know how much I suffered. The death of my father left me with this huge void, I felt very lonely. After his death everything got worse, because I isolated myself.
‘I was alone in Italy, sad and depressed, and then I started drinking. I only felt happy when I was drinking, I’d do it every night. I drank everything I could get my hands on: wine, whisky, vodka, beer. Lots of beer.
‘I didn’t stop drinking and in the end I had to leave Inter.’
