Human legs have been found in a shipping container by factory workers and authorities did not rule out that the person could be a murder victim.

The two legs with socks and trainers were found in Chonburi, Thailand, on Tuesday at 1pm.

The 20ft cardboard box delivered from the US was emptied by workers when they made the grim discovery.

Flesh has rotted away and just the knee joints, shin bones and feet bones remained intact.

The person had worn black socks and black sports shoes with pink laces.

A factory worker said he found the rotting legs: ‘I thought the bones were white poles. But then I saw the knees and the trainers. I was shocked when I realised they were from a human.’

Police Lieutenant Colonel Dechanut Thayasirichuti said: ‘It is possible the person was the victim of a murder. It did not happen in our country though.’

The legs have been taken away by police and sent away for investigation in Bangkok.

The US embassy in Thailand and the shipping company have also been informed about the discovery.

Lieutenant Colonel Dechanut added: ‘We do not believe that the remains are from a local Thai person. The body had already decomposed, so we believe it had been in the container for a long time before it arrived in Thailand.

‘We suspect that the person was a foreigner and the remains travelled here. The shipping company will co-ordinate with foreign police.’
