Holger Rune and Casper Ruud are on course for a repeat of last year’s French Open clash

It’s starting to get hot at Roland Garros in more ways than one as the French Open enters its second week.

Temperatures are set to reach 30C at the weekend when the men’s and women’s singles titles will be decided and the scramble for places in the quarter-finals in both events is gathering pace.

Holger Rune, our ante-post selection, is playing extremely well and has spoken about constant dreams of lifting the trophy.

The 20-year-old Dane won’t get complacent but it would take a nightmare performance against Francisco Cerundolo for him not to reach the last eight.

To be fair, the world No.23 from Argentina is in decent shape after causing something of an upset in Paris by beating American No.9 Taylor Fritz 3-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in the last round.

Cerundolo also won in straight sets the only time he has faced Rune across the net on clay at Manebio in Italy, but that was four years ago and a lot has changed since then.

Take Rune to win by 3-1 at 3/1 with Ladbrokes and Coral to set up a potential revenge mission in the quarters against last year’s beaten finalist Casper Ruud.

The Norwegian Ruud beat his fellow Scandinavian in Paris last year and won their first four meetings, but the Dane triumphed quite comfortably when they met in the recent Rome Masters.

Ruud faces Chilean Nicolas Jarry as he bids to reach the last eight and is 31/10 with 888Sport to also prevail in four sets.

The women’s singles fourth-round highlights include Coco Gauff, who is up against Anna Schmiedlova.

The Slovakian is in the last 16 at Roland Garros for the first time and is unlikely to progress any further as the only previous meeting with Gauff resulted in a 6-0, 6-2 defeat on the Madrid clay last year.

The American can make swift work of this once again to win by over 7.5 games at 16/5 with BetUK.

Victory means Gauff would set up a potential repeat of last year’s final with the brilliant Iga Swiatek, who is 4/6 with BoyleSports to brush aside Lesia Tsurenko by the same margin.

    • Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is 2/1 with Sky Bet to join Tottenham, who are parting company with Hugo Lloris.

    • Harvey Barnes is one of many players leaving Leicester after they were relegated and he is 4/1 to sign for Aston Villa with Bet Victor.
