Liverpool are waiting to learn the extent of Diogo Jota’s injury with Jurgen Klopp pessimistic over the latest injury blow to hit his side.
Jota went down deep into added time and was stretchered off the pitch as the Reds sealed a vital 1-0 victory over Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday evening.
The Portugal international missed the first six games of the season through injury with his latest knock coming a week after Luis Diaz suffered a knee problem that is expected to rule him out or six to eight weeks.
The full extent of Jota’s latest issue is expected to be revealed on Monday with Klopp revealing his player was in ‘real pain’ following the incident.
‘We miss the next one with Diogo. He felt real pain in that moment but I have no idea how bad it is,’ Klopp told Sky Sports. ‘If Diogo stays down it is not good.’
During his post-match press conference, Klopp added: Diogo…I wish I wouldn’t have to talk about it.
‘I saw it inside on the screen, I’m the first who saw it, when he goes down there is not a lot of contact.

‘I can see a little bit [that] someone kicks his foot and then maybe the muscle got overstretched.
‘After 96 minutes that is not good for a muscle, he felt it immediately and now we have to wait [to see] how bad it is.’
Another injury for Jota will not only hamper Liverpool’s plans with a run of eight games coming in the next 27 days, but could also pose as a major threat for the Portugal forward’s World Cup hopes.
Klopp was shown a red card during a fiery second half on Merseyside after appearing to shout at the linesman following an incident where Salah was not awarded a free kick despite appearing to be hauled down in front of the touchline.
‘In the end, probably deserved, but you cannot have this situation,’ Klopp said of his dismissal.
‘It is the clearest foul I ever saw in front of the linesman and he is not bothered. It is clear. They just watch the game but we [the managers] are involved.’
