The incident happened in Sion, Switzerland

A man opened fire at a town in Switzerland, killing two people and injuring another.

Armed police swooped on two different locations in Sion, the capital of the Valais canton, where the perpetrator began shooting indiscriminately at about 8am this morning.

He is believed to be still on the run as more officers are being deployed in the search.

Le Nouvelliste reported that the attacks took place in the Sarosa painting firm, in the Ronquoz area, as well as in the Potences area.

A statement from Swiss police said: ‘On Monday morning, shortly before 8 am, a yet-to-be-identified man in Sion shot several people for unknown reasons.

‘Two people died and another was injured.

‘After receiving the report, the Valais cantonal police immediately set up a force to arrest the perpetrator.

‘According to initial findings, the perpetrator knew his victims.

‘The public prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation into murder as a subsidiary of intentional homicide.’
