A grandmother who was working in her food truck allegedly shot a 23-year-old man who tried to rob her.
Keshondra Howard Turner, 53, was cooking behind the counter of the soul food truck her family owns when a man approached in a vehicle around 1pm on Tuesday and asked what was being served, according to Houston police Lt Bryan Bui.
When Turner showed him, the man brandished a gun and got out of his vehicle demanding cash, said Bui.
The grandma shut the window of her truck but the man opened it and stuck his arm in, pointing a gun at her. Bui said he tried to shoot but that his firearm was jammed.

Turner then shot the suspect multiple times, police said. He collapsed about 50 feet from the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect did not shoot during the encounter and nothing was stolen from the food truck, Bui said. Investigators are searching the area around the parking lot off South Main Street and Fondren for surveillance footage.
Turner had a panic attack following the shooting and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
She was licensed to carry a gun, but would not have used it but to save her life, according to her son Derick Howard.

‘My momma is a great person, you know? Good-hearted, looking out for everybody. She’d give the shirt off her back,’ Howard told KHOU.
‘I hope she’s alright because I know right now she’s going crazy because that’s not even (like) her.’
The food truck called Elite Eats that her family started in 2020 had never encountered any violent issues. Turner’s family are grateful she is alive.
‘She’s a godly woman, that’s why the gun jammed because God jammed it,’ Howard said.
It was not immediately clear if Turner will face any charges.
