A Google software engineer was found ‘splattered with blood’ and ‘staring blankly’ into space after allegedly beating his wife to death.
Liren Chen, 27, was arrested on suspicion of murder at their home in Santa Clara, in the US state of California.
Police have not released her name but records show he was married to Xuanyi Yu, who according to her LinkedIn profile was also a Google software engineer.
Chen was later charged, but his arraignment was postponed after he was hospitalised.
Officers attended the couple’s $2 million (£1.5 million) home after a welfare call was made on January 16, MailOnline reports.
When they arrived a friend of Chen said he could see him inside the property, where he was sat ‘motionless on his knees, had his hands in the air and was staring blankly’.
The district attorney’s office said police went inside and discovered the woman’s body in the bedroom ‘directly behind’ where her husband was standing.

‘Officers located the victim deceased on the floor. She had severe blunt force injuries to her head,’ they said.
‘Chen’s right hand was extremely swollen and purple. He had blood on his clothing, legs, arms, and hands and scratches on his arm.’
His wife had suffered severe blunt force injuries to her head, they added.
Records show Chen and his partner bought the house last year.
Google spokesperson Bailey Tomson told The New York Post: ‘We are shocked and deeply saddened by what has happened to Xuanyi.
‘Our thoughts are with her family at this time, and we will work to provide support to them and to co-workers who are processing this tragic news.’
They both studied at Tsinghua University in China and at the University of California San Diego.
District Attorney Jeff Rosen said there had been a rise in 911 domestic violence calls in the county, although deaths have fallen.
Meanwhile, also in the US, a teacher in Jefferson City was charged with first-degree domestic assault after allegedly being caught on camera lacing her husband’s smoothie with a toxic lily.
