A man has been taken to hospital after several people fell ill following reports of a ‘funny smell’ at a bank in Nuneaton.
The Santander branch in the Warwickshire town was closed after paramedics were called there shortly after midday on Tuesday.
Three ambulances and West Midlands Ambulance Service’s Hazardous Area Response Team attended the scene.
A WMAS spokesman said: ‘Crews arrived to find ten patients complaining of feeling unwell.
‘One of them, a man, was assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to George Eliot Hospital in a stable condition.
‘The remaining nine patients, six women and three men, were assessed and discharged at the scene.’
A Santander spokesperson said the branch was closed ‘as a precaution’ after ‘a potential safety issue was detected’ during routine works.
Fire crews remained at the scene to help ventilate the property.
It is understood the episode is being treated as a ‘minor hazard materials’ incident.
