Foxes rely on Harve measures to lift them off the bottom of the table

    Leicester 2-0 Leeds

Harvey Barnes inspired Leicester to a 2-0 victory over Leeds that moved the Foxes off the bottom of the Premier League table last night.

The forward scored one and forced an own goal from Robin Koch as Brendan Rodgers’ men put a run of seven defeats in their first ten matches behind them at a relieved King Power Stadium.

And it was Barnes, who went into the game with just two goals to his name this season, who was the star of the show.

Dennis Praet crossed and Barnes looked set for a tap-in after just 16 minutes but defender Koch beat him to the ball and diverted it home.

Visitors United could have been level when Luis Sinisterra hit the post following a quick break after a Youri Tielemans shot was blocked at the other end.

However, Leeds’ troubles were doubled when Barnes got on the scoresheet himself in the 35th minute, stroking home Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s centre unmarked.

Leeds introduced Liam Cooper and Rodrigo at the break but could not find a way back into the game and Leicester remained in full control.

The visitors were better in the second half but struggled to test a Foxes rearguard that had kept only two top-flight clean sheets this term, leaving the away fans unhappy at their side’s plight.

The result leaves Jesse Marsch’s men only out of the relegation zone on goal difference following seven matches without a win.

But for Leicester, a second victory of the campaign gives them renewed hope of climbing the table after a woeful start to the season.
