Even Craig Revel Horwood is baffled by this Strictly finale tradition

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has admitted one tradition baffles him every year, and it doesn’t quite seem necessary.

In just hours, Bobby Brazier, Ellie Leach and Layton Williams will be taking the dancefloor one last time for the final, with their partners Dianne Buswell, Vito Coppola and Nikita Kuzmin.

And while the judges’ comments have meant everything over the past three months, Craig has revealed his confusion over their input in tomorrow night’s show, ahead of who lifts the glitterball trophy.

‘It could be any one of them,’ Craig, 58, said on Friday’s Good Morning Britain.

‘Bobby is fantastic because he has come up the ranks from nothing,’ he added, talking about the EastEnders actor’s improvement.

‘It’s great to see him come through up against Ellie who I think is spectacular, although I haven’t given her a 10 yet,’ Craig continued, having recalled how impressed he was by Layton’s Charleston, to which he awarded him with a rare standing ovation.

But, giving Ellie a 10 in the final won’t really matter, Craig admitted.

He went on: ‘My scores tomorrow don’t count actually, because it’s completely up to the general public.’

‘I don’t even know why we actually have to score! It’s just for guidance only, to give people an idea.’

Despite that, he’s ‘hopeful’ Ellie could score a 10 tomorrow, if her performance is ‘worth it’.

The Coronation Street actress, 22, previously spoke to Metro.co.uk and other press about how the experience has been like ‘a dream’, and how she already feels she’s won.

She said: ‘To have had this experience, I already feel like I’ve won, and with [Vito], as a teacher and partner, I genuinely do feel like I’ve won.

‘Obviously it would be nice to win, but coming into Strictly I just wanted to have fun and enjoy every single moment, and that’s exactly what we’ve done.

‘So if we win, amazing, if we don’t win, still amazing, I’ve had the most incredible experience.’

Layton echoed those comments, telling us: ‘No matter what happens I feel like I want to leave with my head held high and feel super proud, we’ve managed to do so much.

‘It’s kind of exceeded all of my expectations, so I’m really proud no matter what happens.’

The Strictly Come Dancing final airs on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One and iPlayer.

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV1.
