Euro 2020: Pubs to stay open later for final on Sunday

Euro 2020: Pubs to stay open later for final on Sunday

Pubs will be allowed to stay open later this Sunday for the Euro 2020 final, Downing Street has confirmed.

Licensing laws will be relaxed so pubs can stay open until 11.15 pm – an extra 45 minutes, in case the game goes to extra time and penalties.

The measure would apply whether or not England get to the final.

A similar move took place for the 2014 World Cup and has happened for royal weddings.

The move is expected to be brought in through a temporary change to licensing laws that apply in England and Wales.

The Euro 2020’s final will take place on Sunday at London’s Wembley Stadium at 8 pm. An estimated 60,000  fans will be in attendance.

England will play Denmark in Wednesday’s semifinal clash at Wembley. If England wins they will go on to play the winner of tonight’s Italy vs Spain game.

The rule change is expected to save pubs from having to apply to their local authority for a special licence to extend their opening hours.

A No 10 spokesman said: “The entire nation’s been gripped by the Euros and this will allow people to enjoy the match in pubs if they wish to do so.”
