Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has overtaken Andy Cole and Alan Shearer to become the first-ever player to score 35 goals in a single Premier League season.
City’s £51.2 million signing from Borussia Dortmund scored against West Ham on Wednesday at the Etihad, taking his tally in the Premier League to 35 goals so far.
Cole set the initial record with 34 goals for Newcastle United in the 1993/94 season, while Shearer followed that up the following year by scoring the same amount for Blackburn Rovers, however, both records were set when the Premier League included 22 teams, which made it a 42-game campaign.
In a 38-game season, Mohamed Salah had previously held the record with 32 goals for Liverpool in the 2017/18 Premier League campaign before he was overtaken by Haaland.
The Norway international is now chasing down Dixie Dean’s 63 goals in all competitions for Everton in 1927-28, which is the English all-time record.
