Erik ten Hag says Scott McTominay is deserving of the Manchester United captaincy after being given the armband for the side’s trip to Liverpool.
With Bruno Fernandes suspended and former captain Harry Maguire injured, Ten Hag faced a decision over today’s skipper.
United area dealing with an injury crisis, and barring Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Marcus Rashford there’s barely any Premier League experience on United’s bench.
In the starting XI, the likes of Raphael Varane, Jonny Evans and Luke Shaw were candidates for the armband.
But Ten Hag says McTominay is an ‘example’ to the rest of the squad and deserves to be named captain.

‘Absolutely [he has earned it],’ said Ten Hag.
‘I think he is one of the examples of what it means to play for Manchester United, to play with the badge on his heart.
‘He is an example, and the others can take that and build on him. I’m sure he will be a communicator; I’m sure he will be an example of passion and desire, and you need that in these games.’
