England vs Hungary live stream – ‘A must-win for England’
Today’s match against Hungary is the final match of Nations League internationals for England after a summer of disappointing football from the three lions.
Few will doubt Gareth Southgate is the right man to lead England into a World Cup despite poor performances. England is yet to win and are expected to finish at the bottom of Group A3 – the team has only two more games before the World Cup.
After Tuesday’s game at Molineux, England travel to Italy before playing Germany at Wembley in September, making a home game against Hungary a must-not-lose affair.

TEAM NEWS, INFO
England vs Hungary team news
Fears of overreliance on both Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling have been on Gareth Southgate’s mind recently as he’s continued to give the supporting cast’ of players plenty of time to impress.
Jordan Pickford, Kyle Walker and John Stones are all pushing to return alongside Kane and Sterling.
Despite recovering from Covid, it’s not known if Phil Foden will be making an appearance whilst Conor Gallagher is set to be given another chance to impress the England boss.
Jude Bellingham was one of a few who enjoyed complete rests at the weekend and could all be drafted back in here.
England do not have any injury concerns after Kalvin Phillips returned off the bench against Italy from a dead leg suffered in German
As for Hungary, Rossi may have been tempted into a goalkeeping change anyway but will be forced into one here, as number one Peter Gulacsi picked up his second booking of the tournament on Saturday and incurred a one-match ban in the process.
Denes Dibusz will likely act as the last line of defence here, while Andras Schafer is back from a ban of his own, and Rossi has generally been loath to make significant alterations this month.
Schafer’s return from the naughty step will likely see Callum Styles drop back down to the bench, while Daniel Gazdag and Szabolcs Schon are ready to deputise for the overworked front three of Dominik Szoboszlai, Roland Sallai and Adam Szalai if needed.

STATS
- England lost their last match against Hungary earlier this month, ending a 15-match unbeaten run against them between 1965 and 2021. They last lost back-to-back games against the Hungarians between 1953 and 1962, a run of four.
- Hungary have only won one of their 11 away games against England (D1 L9), a famous 6-3 win at Wembley in November 1953 with Nándor Hidegkuti scoring a hat-trick. It was England’s first home defeat against a non-British or Irish nation, and Hidegkuti remains the last away player to score a hat-trick against England.
- England have only failed to score in three of their 25 meetings with Hungary in all competitions, including last time out on June 4th (0-1) – they’ve never failed to score in consecutive games against Hungary.
- Hungary have lost just two of their last 12 matches in the UEFA Nations League, picking up six wins in the process (D4). Indeed, the Hungarians have found the back of the net in 11 of those 12 games, only failing to net against Russia in October 2020 (0-0).
- England haven’t conceded more than one goal in any of their last 25 games in all competitions, shipping just eight goals in the process – the last team to net more than once versus the Three Lions were Belgium in November 2020 in the UEFA Nations League (2-0).
- England have failed to score in seven of their 15 UEFA Nations League games (47%). Indeed, seven of the last eight times the Three Lions have failed to find the net in all competitions have been in this tournament. In fact, England have failed to score in a higher share of matches in the UEFA Nations League (47%) than they have in any other competition in their history (exc. friendlies).
PREDICTION
England vs Hungary predictions from the experts
WTX Sports
Hungary have proven to be a difficult team to break down this Nations League run, whilst England are struggling to score goals. But we remain ever hopeful in the Three Lions.
WTX Sports predicts England 1-0 Hungary
SportsMole
The fact that England’s only goal in the Nations League so far has come from the penalty spot simply demonstrates how much Southgate’s players could do with a well-earned break, but Three Lions fans are growing increasingly concerned about their side’s Qatar hopes with each passing game.
The potential introductions of Jude Bellingham and Conor Gallagher to the midfield could yet prove pivotal in England breaking the Hungary lines, and while a high-scoring encounter is surely off the menu, Southgate’s side can finally post a long-awaited win before the summer holidays commence.
SportsMole predicts England 1-0 Hungary
The Independent
Hungary always make it difficult and England are running on empty after a long season, but the hosts should still be able to squeeze out a narrow win with Kane on target.
