Emmerdale star Dominic Brunt has taken to social media to defend co-star Lucy Pargeter, who has received a number of ‘cruel’ messages from online users who can’t separate fiction from reality.
Dominic, who plays Paddy Kirk, was full of praise for Chas star Lucy, writing that she ‘selflessly’ played the controversial and contentious cheating storyline – which saw Chas cheat on Paddy with villainous Al Chapman – branding her an ‘amazing actress’.
We couldn’t agree more.
‘Wow!!,’ he wrote on Twitter. ‘People still being pretty damned cruel and personal towards my dear friend @lucyparge.
‘IT’S A STORY. Lucy has selflessly played this story for all it’s worth, knowing she/Chas would be disrespected and insulted on social media, and STILL hit all the beats. Amazing actress.’
Lucy was appreciative of Dominic’s supportive post, replying with: ‘Oh DD’, followed by three orange heart emojis.
Danny Miller, meanwhile, who played Aaron Dingle, was quick to defend his on-screen mum, writing: ‘@dominicbrunt & @lucyparge are two of THE best.’
‘I learnt everything from them. Including expecting backlash from people who can’t separate fiction and reality. Lucy is incredible at her job and deserves all the plaudits. As Lucy AND Chas.’
Chas, as viewers know, embarked on a sordid affair with troublemaker and schemer Al Chapman shortly after finding about her mum Faith’s terminal cancer diagnosis.

The landlady repeatedly sought comfort in Al’s arms, despite husband Paddy being by her side every step of the way, and later resolved to move away with Al and take daughter Eve with her.
The affair was subsequently exposed, with Paddy struggling to come to terms with what happened, and he’s currently at the centre of a powerful mental health storyline.
