Emmerdale has given an update on Zak Dingle following actor Steve Halliwell’s death earlier this month.

Recent scenes showed Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) get down on one knee to ask Tom King (James Chase) to marry her, with a little help from some special guests.

It is no secret that Tom idolises ice skaters Torvill and Dean, and he was recently left disappointed when he learnt that two reindeer bearing the same name had arrived in the Emmerdale village, and not the icons themselves.

This led Belle to put a hold on her plans to propose, wanting it to be special and memorable for the right reasons.

However, when she attempted to pop the question on Christmas Day, she was interrupted by Sam Dingle (James Hooton), who had a birthday surprise for her.

Still desperate to take her relationship with Tom a step further, she was thrilled to discover that Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) had contacts, and soon the perfect proposal was ready to go.

After bundling a blindfolded Tom onto an ice rink, Leyla revealed that she had cashed in a favour from Torvill and Dean, who skated around the rink as Belle asked him to marry her.

Citing the moment as the best day of his life, Tom was quick to agree, and soon they headed back to the Woolpack with Torvill and Dean in tow.

It was then that Belle revealed she had just been on the phone to her dad, Zak, who had given his blessing for the marriage and was happy that they were so happy.

Zak was last seen on screen back in June, before actor Steve Halliwell’s death was announced earlier this month.

Announcing the sad news, Emmerdale released a statement which read:

It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that Emmerdale can confirm that Steve Halliwell, our beloved Zak Dingle, has peacefully passed away.

‘All our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and loved ones through this very difficult time, and we’d request that their privacy is respected as they grieve for his loss.
