Sad news from EastEnders star Emma Barton, who plays Honey Mitchell. Her beloved terrier dog Poppy has died at the age of 14 and Emma says her heart is broken.
She shared the news on her Instagram along with pictures of Poppy as a puppy, and with Emma and her parents. Poppy was clearly a much loved family member and she looks like the cutest, most characterful dog.
The message posted with the pictures reads,
’🖤POPPY DOG🖤20-03-2008 – 22-10-2022 My beautiful girl…Now at peace….My heart is broken…💔’
Emma’s fellow cast members past and present unite in sympathy in the comments. ‘I’m so sorry. I know how much you loved her ❤️’ Jessie Wallace (Kat) says. Lacey Turner (Stacey), Milly Zero (Dotty), Gillian Wright (Jean) and Gurlaine Kaur Garcha (Ash) add their words of condolence, while former EastEnders stars Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale), Lucy Benjamin (Lisa Fowler) and Rita Simons (Roxy Mitchell) also post messages of sympathy.
Emmerdale star Laura Norton, who plays Kerry Wyatt and has just given birth to her second child, adds, ‘Awwwww sending love babe ❤️’
Poppy was clearly a very important part of Emma’s family, as previous pictures on her Instagram show the little dog apparently trying to pack herself in a suitcase ready for her holidays and rolling about on a sandy beach. In March Emma tweeted a special picture of her dog for Poppy’s 14th birthday.
Emma has been in EastEnders since 2005. Her character, Honey, left Albert Square in 2008, but returned in 2014 and has been a fixture ever since.
Honey has recently reunited with Billy Mitchell after ending her relationship with Jay Brown. There are difficult times ahead, though, as Billy is still facing a long prison stretch after being targeted by Keeble for the murder of her father.
As well as her duties on EastEnders, Emma is also getting ready to star in the pantomime Beauty And The Beast in Bournemouth, where she’ll be playing Fairy Bon Bon.
