Netflix has confirmed a fan theory after some noticed a link between Fool Me Once and Peaky Blinders (Picture: AP)

Netflix viewers have pointed out a surprising connection between a new thriller and a beloved BBC show.

This week the eight-part series Fool Me Once, based on the 2016 Harlan Coben novel of the same name, hit the streaming platform.

The story follows Maya Stern (Michelle Keegan) who is trying to come to terms with the brutal murder of her husband, Joe (Richard Armitage).

But when Maya installs a nanny-cam to keep an eye on her young daughter, she is shocked to see a man she recognises in her house – her husband, who she thought was dead.

However, it turns out the house used for the show has been seen on screen before, as viewers rushed to reveal.

‘Loving Fool Me Once on Netflix but aren’t they using Tommy Shelby’s house?’ Charlie Murphy posted on X after tuning in.

Soon after Netflix confirmed the theory.

‘They really thought they could fool us with Tommy Shelby’s house,’ it posted on Instagram, alongside a composite image of how the mansion was used in both shows.

While the series’ may be set over a century apart, the streaming service said both had used Arley Hall in Cheshire.

Although many said the confirmation confirmed what they’d been thinking, others joked they’d completely missed the connection.

‘Fool me once shame on me, fool me twice shame on Tommy Shelby,’ J Eastlake posted.

However as someone else pointed out, ‘I thought Tommy had blown it up’, referencing the series’ season 6 finale in which Tommy (played by Cillian Murphy) blew up his house, making space for new homes to be built for the people of Birmingham.

Speaking to Creative England’s Filming in England website, Arley’s general manager Bridge Roberts said that filming for Fool Me Once took place in several locations including the formal gardens, the Hall (interior and exterior) and the grounds and roads at Arley from April through to July last year.

Since the show hit screens, viewers have been rushing to binge all the episodes, with some admitting they were debating whether to call in sick to work to watch more.

Others joked they were preparing for an all-nighter to find out how it wrapped up.

Fool Me Once is streaming on Netflix, while Peaky Blinders is available on the same platform as well as BBC iPlayer.
