Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has addressed the wildfires currently ravaging Hawaii in a solemn message shared on social media.

Flames first engulfed the island of Maui on Tuesday and an inferno raged for hours on end, leaving a trail of destruction in its wake.

Dwayne, 51, was raised in Hawaii for a while as his mother was born there.

In a video posted on Sunday, the A-lister spoke of his ‘heartbreak’ and told his 388million followers: ‘I know that, by now, all of you around the world have seen the complete destruction and devastation that has hit our Hawaiian islands — our island of Maui — and I’m completely heartbroken over this and I know all of you are too.’

The star added: ‘Everything that I’ve seen transpire over these past couple of days, everything that continues to transpire hour by hour, minute by minute, it’s all heartbreaking.’

‘I have been speaking with organizations on the ground, who have boots on the ground, and I will continue to get as much information as possible,’ the actor also said.

Dwayne captioned his post: ‘Heartbroken but our faith and mana is strong. First responders, health care teams, hotels, locals businesses, boots on the ground organizations and all our local heroes, stay strong – we love you and appreciate you.

‘All our local families, our ohana, our aiga, stay strong thru this devastating time. Resilience resolve is our DNA. Our ancestors are in our blood. This is who we are. This is what we do. I love you. Stay strong. More to come.’

He also directed his fans to places where they can donate to aid.

Beginning last week, fires spread across Maui island, causing widespread damage – especially in the town of Lahaina, where 55 people were killed.

Natives and tourists alike have also been devastated by the news that an ancient banyan tree, the largest in the United States, has been scorched in the fires.

Earlier this year, a 150th birthday party was held for the tree, with it having been planted in 1873 – its surrounding area was named Banyan Tree Park.

Satellite images from before and after the fires have revealed the impact of the devastation, with several buildings and homes ‘wiped off the map’.
