DNC day 2: Obamas call on US to back Harris and usher in a ‘new chapter’
The second night of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) saw speeches from former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
They called for voters to come out in force this November to vote for Kamala Harris and ensure Donald Trump is defeated in November.
The Obamas remain the most popular figures in the Democratic Party. They praised the vice president during their back-to-back speeches describing her as a leader who is ready for the Oval Office whilst critising Donald Trump’s term as president.
.@BarackObama: "We do not need four more years of bluster and bumbling and chaos. We have seen that movie before and we all know that the sequel is usually worse. America is ready for a new chapter. America is ready for a better story. We are ready for a President Kamala Harris." pic.twitter.com/Og7ZyVe5Or

“America is ready for a new chapter. America is ready for a better story,” Barack Obama said. “We are ready for a President Kamala Harris. And Kamala Harris is ready for the job.”
But the Obamas warned the Democrats not to forget that the race to the White House is tight.
“Make no mistake, it will be a fight,” Mr Obama said.
“We need to vote in numbers that erase any doubt,” Michelle Obama said. “We need to overwhelm any effort to suppress us.”
Harris has a narrow lead in national polling averages but pollsters caution that the race remains a virtual tie in the handful of battleground states that will ultimately decide who wins under America’s electoral college system.
