Derek Chauvin: Prosecutors seek 30 years, defence wants probation – sentencing scheduled for June 25
The sentencing phase of ex-cop Derek Chauvin, who has been convicted of the murder of George Floyd, is scheduled for June 25.
Minnesota prosecutors are seeking a 30-year sentence for Chauvin whilst Chauvin’s defence is asking for a sentence of probation and time served.
The judge, Peter Cahill ruled there were “aggravating circumstances” in Floyd’s murder, giving him the discretion to sentence Chauvin to a term longer than regular state guidelines.
