    Delhi surpasses Mumbai as India’s worst-hit city as country reports largest single-day jump in cases 

    CNN says Delhi on Wednesday surpassed Mumbai as the worst-hit Indian city by the coronavirus pandemic. 

    Delhi has so far reported a total of 70,390 coronavirus cases while Mumbai has seen 69,625 cases, according to health authorities. 

    India reported 16,922 new coronavirus cases on Thursday — the highest single-day jump so far, bringing the total number of cases found in the country to 473,105, according to its health ministry. India also registered 418 virus-related deaths in the past day, raising the death toll to 14,894.

    Covid-19 antibody test lacks ‘proper assessment’ 

    BBC News says Covid-19 antibody tests for NHS and care staff are being rolled out without “adequate assessment”, experts warn.

    The tests could place an unnecessary burden on the NHS, the 14 senior academics say in a letter in the BMJ,

    Last month, the government said it had bought 10 million antibody tests and asked NHS trusts and care homes to make them available to staff in England.

    Officials say the blood tests – to see if someone has had the virus – will play an “increasingly important role”.

    WHO warns pandemic has not reached its peak in the Americas

    The Guardian says as Dr Tedros warned of a shortage in oxygen supply in the face of cases increasing by about 1 million per week, the head of the WHO emergencies programme, Dr Mike Ryan, said the pandemic in many Latin American countries was still intense as deaths in the region surpassed 100,000 this week.

    Many countries had experienced 25-50% increases in cases in the past week, he said.

    “I would characterise the situation in the Americas in general as still evolving, not having reached its peak yet, and likely to result in sustained numbers of cases and continued deaths,” he said.

    Royal Mail to cut 2,000 jobs  as pandemic adds to ‘challenges’ 

    Sky News says Royal Mail is to cut 2,000 jobs in a restructuring prompted by the “additional challenges” of the coronavirus pandemic.

    The cuts will reduce the number of UK management roles in the business, currently totalling 9,700, by around a fifth – mainly affecting the most senior leaders, whose numbers will be cut by about half.

    Arab News says The COVID-19 pandemic will have cost the global economy $12 trillion by the end of next year, the International Monetary Fund predicted on Wednesday.

    The pandemic was “a crisis like no other,” the contraction in the global economy would be significantly worse than it previously thought, and recovery was “uncertain,” the IMF said in a gloomy update to its World Economic Outlook
