A father who was fishing with is son and could not swim drowned after saving two children.

Marvin Alexan Fernandez Chicas was with his three-year-old son Dylan and some friends when he ‘drowned in the lake, giving his life for two children who were also about to drown along with him’, according to a GoFundMe page set up by his family.

‘He became a hero for everyone,’ wrote Lesly Canaca, the wife of one of Chicas’ brothers.

The drowning happened on Lake Nockamixon in Pennsylvania on Thursday.

‘Unfortunately he can’t swim. The kids got out, he did not.’

Chicas was a very hardworking man, an excellent father,’ wrote Canaca. ‘They were always going to see him with his son everywhere, that little one didn’t leave his dad’s side.’
