Crete earthquake: 6.5-magnitude tremor hits Greek island, says EMSC
The Independent says a magnitude 6.5 earthquake has struck the Greek island of Crete, according to the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC). The quake had a depth of 1.24 miles, the EMSC said.
Eyewitnesses told EMSC about the quake. One person in Mochos, 11 miles from the epicentre, said that it was “really strong with a lot buzzing”. A witness in Stalis, 12 miles from the epicentre said that it lasted “several minutes” and reported that the building had been shaking.
Another witness who was 11 miles from the epicentre reported that a school had to be evacuated as a result of the quake.
