Covid-19: Peru death toll the worst in the world per capita

On Monday Peru’s Covid-19 death toll almost tripled to 180,764 after a government review, making Peru the country with the worst death toll rate per capita, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

Peru has been among the hardest hit Latin American countries during the pandemic. Its hospitals have suffered from overcrowding and an oxygen shortage. 

Experts had previously warned that the true death toll was being undercounted in official statistics.
