Coronation Street spoilers: Another two characters return and things get very emotional

Two Coronation Street characters are set to make a return to the cobbles as things take an emotional turn in upcoming scenes.

Things between Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) and Chesney Brown (Sam Aston) are tense when Joseph (William Flanagan) complains of a temperature. While Chesney is adamant that he is fine, Gemma isn’t so sure, but is scared to act in case it jeopardises her situation with social services.

Instead, she quizzes Dr Gaddas (Christine Mackie) in the cafe, but Chesney is furious when he overhears.

Later, things seem to be a bit calmer as Gemma, Chesney and Paul Foreman (Peter Ash) lark about with the kids, but the atmosphere is soon shattered by the arrival of Linda Hancock (Jacqueline Leonard).

When Linda hands Chesney a business card for a family solicitor, he refuses to discuss it, and is soon distracted by Joseph gagging on his milk. It quickly transpires that the fridge is broken and all the food has gone off.

Gemma is concerned when Chesney emerges with a sickly looking Joseph, but he assures her it is just a stomach ache, though their conversation catches the interest of Dr Gaddas.

Later, Gemma finds the solicitor’s business card and is horrified at the thought of Chesney trying to take her children away. Chesney assures her that he’d never do that, but the truth leaves her astounded.

Linda is quick to reveal that it was all her idea, as she doesn’t think the children are safe with Gemma, and a furious Gemma soon storms out.

Things only get more emotional when Chesney gets a call from the school informing him that Joseph is unwell. Having brought him home, both Chesney and Linda are horrified when he collapses, and Chesney urges her to call an ambulance.

At the hospital, the doctor approaches them and reveals that, following a conversation with Dr Gaddas, they suspect that Joseph may have Lyme disease which he contracted while camping.

The next day, the doctor confirms Joseph’s diagnosis, and reveals that he should make a full recovery. Meanwhile, Gemma is elated as she reveals that social services have allowed her to move home, though Chesney gets a shock when Joseph reveals that he wants to live with Gemma, as she was the only one to believe that he was ill.

Elsewhere, Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove) is released from prison, and walks straight into a surprise party organised for her by Paul, Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) and Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).

What will she make of Chesney and Gemma’s situation, and Linda’s return?
