Passions are rising in Coronation Street, meaning that winter is going to seriously heat up as 2023 comes to a close on the cobbles.
Two sets of characters will be thrust into sizzling affairs over coming months, with show boss Iain MacLeod promising that they are gripping – and one is ‘sexy’.
The return of Damon Hay (Ciaran Griffiths) will throw Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), setting pulses racing.
Her short-lived romance with the bad boy was packed full of sparks, and when Damon arrives back on the cobbles, defying Adam Barlow’s (Sam Robertson) threats, his agenda to win back Sarah is instantly clear.
And it’s not long until these desires are reciprocated.
‘Damon has been somewhere away from Coronation Street plotting his revenge,’ Corrie’s producer told us.
‘The story then becomes a kind of love triangle where Damon, we also imagine has been spending his intervening months pining for Sarah.
‘I felt there was really intense feeling between those two, but really natural chemistry and connection, and he comes back with a kind of two pronged plan.
‘The first of them is that he wants to get his revenge on Adam and the second of them is that he wants Sarah back because he feels like she’s the one. And he will essentially have to contend with the fact that these two plans might not be compatible.’

Enthusing the high drama to come as a result, he continued: It’s a brilliant, exciting, high octane story. ‘The storyline is packed full of twists and turns and excitement. Dare I say it in this day and age, but it’s quite sexy as well. I think it’s got lots of intensity and passion.
‘As it shakes down, Damon’s revenge may start to take a backseat to his feelings for Sarah. But just in case you thought that that was all going to be smooth running from there, Adam can’t stand the idea that this guy’s back and he’s maybe got designs on Sarah who is at this point still his wife.
‘The might want rid of Damon. So as Damon’s calming down and Adams going into the direction and his plans to rid himself of Damon.
Away from this very fiery trio, there is already a complex love triangle between Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan), Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard) and Ryan Prescott (Ryan Connor).
Iain confirmed that it won’t be long before Daniel gets suspicious and finds out – leading him down a dark and dangerous path.
He revealed: ‘It all comes crashing down, there’s some fantastic scenes concerning the end of that relationship, some big dilemmas for Daisy in terms of, “if not Daniel, then is Ryan the right choice? If I were to choose him, would that be purely because he’s now the default setting, or is that really what I want?”
‘And obviously Ryan in the middle of that is quite a vulnerable guy at this time and stands to get his heart trampled on if he’s not careful.’
Not complicated enough? Throw a returning Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) into the mix, and there is even more chaos.
Iain teased that Bethany and Daisy will have an almighty clash, butting heads due to their feelings for Daniel.

‘It’s going to run deep into next year as all these unresolved feelings are buried but, like all good buried feelings, they all come back to the surface with a bang or two across the following twelve months,’ he revealed.
‘Bethany is instantly a foe for Daisy. They’re very evenly matched now – Bethany might once have seemed like a younger woman or a girl; she’s very much more a woman now, more on Daisy’s level, so it’s a really heavyweight tussle between these two women, which I’m really looking forward to seeing more of.’
