Carla and Peter have had a rough time recently (Picture: ITV)

Carla Connor (Alison King) is set to return to Coronation Street following an unsuccessful trip to Spain, and things are still frosty between her and husband Peter Barlow (Chris Gascoyne).

Carla jetted off to Spain during Peter’s hour of need, in a last ditch effort to stop her business from going under.

This left Peter feeling somewhat abandoned and the pair unfortunately left things on icy terms.

With Carla back in Weatherfield, she feels defeated over the state of Underworld, having failed to secure the deal that could have saved it.

Things only get worse when Ken Barlow (William Roache) reveals his concerns that Peter may be drinking again.

Together, they look around the flat and Carla is disappointed to find a bottle of whiskey missing.

Things at the factory take an even worse turn when Carla and Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) realise they have no way of paying their staff, unless they can get an urgent order out and agree cash on delivery.

Carla tells a little white lie to the factory workers, assuring them that they will be paid that evening, but it isn’t long before her lie is uncovered.

Furious that the banks have no way of tracing the money Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce) and therefore they won’t be paid, the workers down tools as Carla and Sarah beg them to reconsider.

She is quick to point out that without this order, the factory will go under and they will all be out of the job.

With Carla stressed to the max with the goings on at the factory, Peter assures her that he is happy to attend his alcoholics meeting alone.

However, Carla feels guilty for putting her work before her marriage, and she soon rushes off to meet Peter ahead of the meeting.
