Police have raided the home of the estranged husband of a mother of three who was found shot dead after failing to pick up her children from school.

Rebecca Bliefnick, 41, was discovered in her home with multiple gunshot wounds after a family member reported that she had not gotten her sons from St Peter School in Quincy, Illinois.

On Monday, four days after she was found dead, police were seen speaking with her husband Tim at his house about a mile away on Hampshire Street.

‘As part of the warrant service, an individual was temporarily detained in the 2000 block of Hampshire and released,’ stated police on Wednesday. ‘No arrests have been made related to this investigation.’

After executing the search warrant, police did not ask prosecutors for an arrest warrant.

‘During a criminal investigation it is not unusual to obtain and serve numerous search warrants for a variety of reasons,’ police said. ‘Search warrants are a normal part of the investigative process.’

Tim’s lawyer, Casey Schnack, on Wednesday morning said ‘it is not surprising’ that the search warrant was issued and carried out in light of the circumstances.

‘My only surprise is that it took this long to do,’ said Schnack, according to the Muddy River News.

‘It is just as important that QPD (Quincy Police Department) conduct such as investigation to rule Tim OUT as a suspect so that investigative efforts can be spent elsewhere.’

Rebecca and Tim were in divorce proceedings since February 2021, according to court records. They are believed to have gotten married in 2009.

The couple were living separately, with Rebecca residing on the 2500 block of Kentucky Road.

Police Chief Adam Yates said that more information on the case will be released ‘when we are able, and it is appropriate to do so’.

‘It is important to remember that all individuals are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,’ said Yates.

Anyone with information on the murder is urged to contact the Quincy Police Department.
