Champions League: Manchester City cruises to quarters as Haaland finds the back of the net again
Manchester City 3-1 FC Copenhagen – (6-2 agg)
Manchester City secured a 3-1 win to reach the Champions League quarter-finals for a seventh succession season.
City went into the game already ahead by two goals from the first leg, and any hopes FC Copenhagen could claw their way back were ended within nine minutes as both Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez had found the net.
On the stroke of half-time, Erling Haaland scored, joining Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe at the top of the tournament scoring charts – sixth of the campaign, and 29th in all competitions.
All the goals came in the first half, including the visitors who pulled one back in the 29th minute.
It was a great result for City, who next face Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League.
City are on the longest current run of successive Champions League quarter-final appearances. The only English club to ever have done better in the competition is Manchester United, who reached the last eight in seven consecutive seasons from 1996-97 to 2002-03.
