King Charles III’s Coronation is right around the corner, meaning speculation over which celebrities will attend is rife.

Certain members of the public have been specially invited, the royal guest list is sorted, with confirmation that Prince Harry will be flying over for the occasion, and foreign world leaders also jetting over, but our brains are ticking away trying to work out which stars we’ll spot.

A number of A-listers have royal connections, having been specially invited to royal weddings, funerals, and fundraisers in the past, but who will be there to watch the King officially crowned in person, not just on TV?

Let’s take a look at the stars expected to make an appearance…

    David and Victoria Beckham

David and Victoria Beckham have attended many royal events over the years (Picture: AP)

The Beckhams are no strangers to royal events.

Former Manchester United player David, 47, and his fashion designer wife, 49, have rubbed royal shoulders on numerous occasions, including at the weddings of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The footie star also made headlines when he queued for 13 hours to see the Queen’s coffin lying in state after her death.

And while the Spice Girls will not be reuniting for the Coronation Concert, despite previous rumours, there’s every reason to assume Posh and Becks will be on the guest list for the main event.

    Zara and Mike Tindall

It’ll come as no surprise that Zara Tindall, 41, the daughter or Princess Anne and the King’s niece, is expected to attend the coronation.

Coronation of King Charles III latest

The historic Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Consort Camilla will take place in Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6, 2023.

She also might not technically be a ‘celebrity.’

However, it’s fair to say her husband, Mike Tindall, cemented his own celebrity status after appearing in the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! jungle last year.

Finishing in fourth place behind Matt Hancock, Owen Warner, and Jill Scott, the rugby star, 48, was taken to the hearts of the British public, having smashed his way through some pretty grim Bushtucker Trials.

The pair haven’t confirmed whether they’ll attend the coronation, but they’re forever popping up at royal gatherings.

    Bear Grylls

The last time we saw Bear Grylls at a royal event was the Queen’s funeral, which he attended as chief scout.

Therefore, it’s not wrong to assume an invite for the coronation has probably been pushed through his letterbox.

The survival expert, 48, is clearly an important figure to the Royal Family, having been granted an OBE for his services to young people and speaking highly of the late Queen, and new monarch King Charles, on numerous occasions.

In fact, in 2022, he told The Times that the King has what it takes to go on a wilderness adventure with him, hailing him ‘pretty tough.’

    Sandra Oh

Perhaps Sandra Oh will appear at the coronation as a member of the Order of Canada? (Picture: Michael Tran/AFP)

Prior to 2022, you might have laughed if we suggested Killing Eve actress Sandra Oh might attend a royal event, because it does sound rather random.

However, the Canadian star, 51, was invited to the Queen’s funeral and had an official role in the ceremony as a member of the Order of Canada, a civilian honor established by Queen Elizabeth in 1967.

The Grey’s Anatomy star processed into Westminster Abbey alongside fellow members of a Canadian delegation, including Olympian Mark Tewskbury and musician Gregory Charles.

So, there are rumours that she might have received a coronation invitation.

    Katy Perry

Flying the flag for the United States, Katy Perry will perform at the coronation concert on May 7.

She’s part of a stellar line-up, with the musical celebration being held in the grounds of Windsor Castle in front of a crowd of 20,000 members of the public and invited guests, broadcast across BBC television and radio stations.

While Katy, 38, will definitely be in the country the day before the big show, it’s not known if she’ll be at the main event – but we know she loves the royals.

The California Girls singer said she’s ‘so excited’ to perform for the King, given that she’s an ambassador for The British Asian Trust, a charity founded by the King when he was Prince of Wales, due to her commitment to other global charities including Unicef and her own Firework Foundation.

‘I am excited to be performing at the Coronation Concert, and helping to shine a further light on the British Asian Trust’s Children’s Protection Fund, whose work includes on-ground initiatives to fundraising, with the aim to find solutions to child trafficking,’ Katy said.

Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald

Joining Katy on the Coronation Concert bill are Gary Barlow, Mark Owen and Howard Donald, aka Take That.

The trio’s performance at the concert will be their first live show since the Odyssey Tour, four years ago in 2019.

They hailed it a ‘celebration of a new King,’ promising ‘a huge live band and orchestra, a choir, military drummers’ and more.

Gary in particular has a long-standing relationship with the Royal Family.

Having performed at several Royal Variety shows over the years, Gary also curated the concert outside Buckingham Palace for the late Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in 2012.

    Lionel Richie

Lionel Richie will also perform at Westminster Castle (Picture: PA)

Lionel Richie is another star bringing his tunes to Westminster Castle.

The All Night Long singer, 73, said that it was an ‘honour’ to celebrate the event when the line-up was announced.

Lionel, a Grammy, Oscar and Golden Globe winner, was also appointed The Prince’s Trust’s first global ambassador and is the chairman of the Global Ambassador Group.

He said: ‘To share the stage with the other performers at the Coronation Concert is a once-in-a-lifetime event and it will be an honour and a celebration.’

    Andrea Bocelli

Completing the line-up of big stars performing at the Coronation Concert is opera powerhouse Andrea Bocelli, but we wouldn’t be shocked if he was also present on May 6.

The Italian tenor and Sir Bryn Terfel will perform a duet of an ‘iconic song of love and collective solidarity’.

He said it was a ‘great honour’ to sing for the late Queen on several occasions and that it was another special moment to be asked to perform for the King.

Indeed, the 64-year-old has plenty of experience singing for royalty, having sung at the Platinum Jubilee, as well as the wedding of Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank.

At the request of Princess Eugenie’s mother, Sarah, Duchess of York, he sang Ava Maria and Panis Angelicus, backed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at St George’s Chapel.

He has been ‘very good friends’ with Sarah for many years, hence why she personally invited him, after they met a long time ago at a TV studio.

    Dame Joanna Lumley

One person 100% confirmed to be involved with the coronation is Dame Joanna Lumley – she’ll be joining correspondents Alastair Bruce, Kay Burley, and Anna Botting as a special guest in the day’s news coverage.

The Absolutely Fabulous star, 76, will join Sky News fresh from attending the coronation service, the broadcaster confirmed.

Confirming her role, a statement read: ‘The actress will join the Sky News line-up on Saturday fresh from attending the coronation service at Westminster Abbey as a guest of the King and Queen Consort.’

Dame Joanna is thought to have been a ‘close friend’ of the King’s for a while, having attended his wedding to Camilla in 2005.

The broadcaster and actress has been vocal about her love for the royals – and her disdain for The Crown (Picture: PA)

She’s also been consistently vocal about her support for the royals, which has meant putting The Crown on blast.

‘I know them [the Royal Family], so I know it’s all made up and it’s rubbish,’ she previously told Women’s Weekly.

‘All the poor actors who are doing their best to copy them, it’s awful. Imagine somebody making up conversations they think you’ve had.’

    Baroness Floella Benjamin

Another person who has a key role in the coronation is Baroness Floella Benjamin.

The former children’s TV presenter, 73 will carry the Sovereign’s Sceptre with Dove, one of the treasures which will play a starring role on the day.

Traditionally known as the Rod Of Equity And Mercy, it represents the King’s spiritual role.

Speaking about her involvement, she said she feels ‘honoured and privileged to be part of the ‘historic’ occasion.

‘To be selected to carry the Sovereign’s Sceptre With Dove, which represents spirituality, equity and mercy, is for me very symbolic as it’s everything I stand for and sends out a clear message that diversity and inclusion is being embraced,’ she added.

Since her days presenting Play School, the author and peer has chaired the Windrush Commemoration Committee and met with royalty.

In 2022, she unveiled a statue in Waterloo Station by the sculptor Basil Watson as the National Windrush Monument in the presence of Prince William.

    Jill Biden

Jill Biden will attend to represent the United States of America, in place of her husband, President Joe Biden (Picture: PA)

There’ll be plenty of world leaders and politicians at the coronation, including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and leaders from Italy, Australia, Norway, the Philippines, Spain, and more.

One big name who’ll be absent, though, is American President Joe Biden.

The President personally called King Charles on April 3 to inform him that he would not be attending the coronation, but his wife and First Lady Jill Biden, 71, would attend on behalf of the United States.
