The number of internally displaced people in Haiti has surged to over one million, a threefold increase attributed to escalating gang violence, according to the United Nations’ International Organization for Migration (IOM). The crisis is most severe in the capital, Port-au-Prince, where displacement rose by 87% between 2023 and 2024.

Haiti’s Prime Minister Ariel Henry has bowed to the mounting pressure and escalating violence in the country, agreeing to step down.
This development follows a series of attacks orchestrated by gangs targeting the airport, police stations, and prisons throughout the week. These groups are advocating for the removal of Haitian Prime Minister Ariel Henry.
