Actress Carrie Fisher is to be posthumously honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on a very fitting day – May 4.
That date had been initially adopted by Star Wars fans as a day to informally celebrate all things Skywalker related, thanks to its similarity to the franchise’s iconic saying ‘May the force be with you’.
Now more of an official affair, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has opted to award Fisher with her place on the iconic Walk of Fame then too.
She joins her co-stars Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford on the walkway.
The actress, whose most celebrated role was that of Princess Leia in the original film trilogy and later sequels, died aged 60 on December 27, 2016.
Her mother, Hollywood film star Debbie Reynolds, died the following day aged 84 following a stroke.

It’s been confirmed that Fisher’s daughter Billie Lourd, 30, will be accepting the star on her late mother’s behalf, with speakers yet to be announced.
Fisher will hold the 2,754th star on the Walk, and it will be situated at 6840 Hollywood Boulevard just across from that of Reynolds.
‘Fans will be over the moon to know that their favourite movie princess, Carrie Fisher will be honoured with her star on the iconic Hollywood Walk of Fame! Carrie will join her Star Wars co-stars and fellow Walk of Famers Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford on this historic sidewalk,’ announced producer of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Ana Martinez.

‘I am happy to add, that her star is just a few feet away from the star of Mark Hamill and across the street from the star of her legendary mother Debbie Reynolds.’
Hamill celebrated the news in a tweet, writing: ‘Long overdue & so well-deserved.’
He added the hashtag ‘#CarrieOnForever’ with a red heart emoji.
The actress and writer daughter of the Singin’ in the Rain star and her crooner husband Eddie Fisher made her film debut in Shampoo.
