Car ploughs into German crowd in yet another attack
A car has ploughed into a crowd of people in the city centre of Mannheim, western Germany, killing one person and leaving several injured.
Police said the suspect has been arrested and services are onsite, with the area cordoned off.
The German public has been urged to avoid large areas and has set a warning level of “extreme danger.”
No further details have been shared about those injured or how badly they have been injured, but the Manneheim University Hospital said it had prepared everything for a possible mass incident.
At least eight trauma teams have been made available for both adults and kids, according to the hospital’s statement, given to German news agency DPA.
“Operations that could be postponed and had not yet begun were immediately removed from the operating schedule in order to create additional operating capacity,” it said.
It comes amid a spate of attacks in Germany – including cars ploughing into crowds. It’s not yet known what the motive was or whether it was intentional.
