A home in Essex was left with an enormous hole in its wall after a car came crashing through it on Christmas Day.
Nobody inside the house was hurt in the smash, which took place at around 9.50am yesterday on Argent Street in Grays.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving without a licence and insurance.
The vehicle was estimated by locals to be travelling at around 80mph when it crashed into the home.
Argent Street was closed by Essex Police for several hours yesterday while investigations were carried out.
Pictures from the scene show a hole in the corner of the house, with rubble and household items strewn across the garden.
Later, three wooden struts were installed by firefighters to stop the side of the building from collapsing.
The BBC reported that several neighbours had been told to leave their homes due to the threat of a gas leak as the vehicle had struck a gas line.
In a separate incident less than 12 hours later, a car smashed through the wall of a nursery in Amersham, Buckinghamshire.
Images showed a large hole in the side of the building with the car still visible inside.
Acre Wood Nursery told parents in a social media post: ‘We are aware that a car has collided with the nursery building.
‘We are in attendance and the appropriate authorities/insurance companies have been contacted.
‘We will keep you updated in the coming days. As per our business continuity plan, we will be making arrangements to try to avoid to disruption.’
