Breaking – Gaza war: Sadiq Khan breaks with Starmer by urging ceasefire
Sadiq Khan has called for a ceasefire in the Israel–Hamas war, breaking from the official Labour stance.
Sir Keir Starmer, Labour’s leader, has not called for a ceasefire but has said there should be “humanitarian pauses” in the conflict.
Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has also backed a ceasefire, adding more pressure on Starmer to change the party’s official stance.
In a statement earlier, Sadiq Khan said Israel had a “right to defend itself” following the “appalling terror attack” of 7 October.
Sadiq Khan, trying to appease the Jewish lobby, has come under increased pressure from the Muslim community, who expected him to speak out against the atrocities being committed in Palestine by the IDF militia. Instead, he has remained silent and has received huge losses in support in London for his duplicitous stance.

He campaigned for Muslims and justice as part of the Mayor of London campaign, as a voice in London’s minorities, promising to stand up for issues like Palestine, Kashmir and Muslim rights and freedoms.
The majority of the Muslim community feels he has let them down with his silence and playing politics with the lives of Palestinians. He posted a video on LinkedIn and switched off the comments to avoid any backlash.

Khan said a ceasefire would “allow the international community more time to prevent a protracted conflict in the region and further devastating loss of life”.
In a video, Scottish Labour leader Mr Sarwar said: “We are all so desperate for peace and are desperate to see the end of violence.”
“We need to see the immediate release of hostages, immediate access to humanitarian supplies… and the immediate cessation of violence with an end of rocket fire into and out of Gaza,” he added.
“And let me be clear, that means a ceasefire right now,” he added.
